Yesterday, whilst walking home from Tiddly Peeps, somewhere between Five Lane Ends and our house, Ezra dropped Bear.
We didn't realise until later, and once Daddy was home I valiantly searched for him. I climbed through bushes and over walls, in dustbins and gardens to no avail.
Bear is gone for good this time.
Bear was his first toy. We replaced him once, but to Ezra he was still the same bear. He has travelled everywhere with us. Bear has had a passport, worn an oxygen mask, been on a rollercoaster, he even paddled in the sea. He's been to restaurants, cinema's slept in strange beds and visited strange houses. He has always been with Ezra.
Ezra settled with another Teddy but woke in the night very very distressed. He tried a myriad of other stuffed toys, but kept wimpering that he had lost his bear, and missed him so much it made his tummy and his throat hurt.
It was heartbreaking to watch him wrestle with his loss. He requested medicine to help ease his pain, which I'm sure was a physical manifestation of his despair. After several hours he fell into restless sleep, as did we.
"I love my bear Mummy, why would somebody take him?"
"I miss my bear, Mummy. I just miss him"
John croaked this morning;
"Of course, you do realise we had three children, Ezra Seth and Bear. Now we have only two"
As if making him move away from all his friends and loved ones isn't bad enough, he lost his bear on my watch. My guilt is fierce.
Bye bye Bear, no other bear can replace you.
